Myth: No one is born gay

                                      NO ONE IS BORN GAY
The belief that no one is born gay is simply a myth created to spark an agenda. Black Americans and other minorities were afforded civil right protections in the 1960’s based on a ruling that explained that the unfair treatment of individuals based on races or any other factor that they could not change - because they were born that way - was indeed wrong and unjust. So it now only makes sense that anti-gay activists and like-minded supporters will make the argument that sexual orientation is a behavior and choice that can changed at any point. Evelyn Schlatter and Robert Steinback write in their research that, “ Modern science cannot state conclusively what causes sexual orientation, but a great many studies suggest that it is the result of both biological and environmental forces, not a personal “choice." (Southern Poverty Law Center, 2011). Other scientists have dedicated much of their careers into research homosexuality and genetics. The Los Angeles Times published an article stating that, “UCLA molecular biologist Tuck C. Ngun reported that in studying the genetic material of 47 pairs of identical male twins, he has identified "epigenetic marks" in nine areas of the human genome that are strongly linked to male homosexuality.” (Los Angeles Times, 2015). Regardless of conclusiveness, the strongest evidence comes from the primary sources, the people themselves. In the same study by Schlatter and Steinback they state, “The American Psychological Association (APA) states that sexual orientation “ranges along a continuum,” and acknowledges that despite much research into the possible genetic, hormonal, social and cultural influences on sexual orientation, scientists have yet to pinpoint the precise causes of sexual orientation. Regardless, the APA concludes that "most people experience little or no sense of choice about their sexual orientation." This is where we must eliminate any bias or contradicting disposition and simply listen. If an overwhelming majority in the LGBTQ community say they never felt like their identity was a choice, me must believe them. Who knows more about personal experience than the person themselves.
